The Bundesliga side say the 21-year-old Hazard, the younger brother of Belgium and Chelsea star Eden, has signed a deal until June 2015.

Hazard spent the past two seasons on loan at Belgian side Zulte Waregem. He scored 14 goals in 39 league games and two more in ten Europa League games last season. He was voted player of the year in Belgium for 2013.

Moenchengladbach sporting director Max Eberl said: “Thorgan is a promising talent. He can play across several positions in attack and we’re happy that he’s decided to take the next step in his career at Borussia.”

Hazard, who played for Belgium’s youth sides from under-15 level, has one appearance for the senior side.

Meanwhile, Schalke have signed Cameroon forward Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting on a free transfer from Bundesliga rival Mainz.

Schalke said that the 25-year-old Choupo-Moting signed a deal until June 2017. Schalke general manager Horst Heldt said: “He can play in several positions but we’re planning on a central position in attack.”
