Samsung tablet hit by Apple ban

Samsung has been ordered to stop selling a tablet computer in the US while courts consider a claim by rival Apple that the South Korean technology giant copied the design of its popular iPad.

US district judge Lucy Koh in San Jose, California, had previously denied Apple’s bid for an injunction on the Galaxy Tab 10.1, but a federal appeals court instructed her to reconsider the request. The two firms are involved in patent disputes around the globe.

Koh said: “Although Samsung has a right to compete, it does not have a right to compete unfairly, by flooding the market with infringing products.”

Apple must post a $2.6 million (£1.7m) bond to protect Samsung against damages if the injunction is later overturned.
