Motorola shares dip on product warning
MOTOROLA, the troubled tech company that last week saw its chief executive quit, met more trouble yesterday as it emerged it will not be able to supply two important digital camera mobile phone models in time to meet this year’s US holiday season.
The delays sent Motorola shares down 4.2 per cent. Vodafone said it had been expecting the phones, with built-in digital cameras, from Motorola for the crucial fourth quarter, when a large portion of the industry sales occurs. However, the phones will not be ready until the first quarter.
Motorola has been accused of missing the boat on mobiles with cameras, and is struggling to catch up with rivals. "They just don’t have a camera phone to sell," said one analyst.
