National Express has chosen Edinburgh-based software firm Ecometrica to help the coach operator measure the amount of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases emitted by its vehicles.

The FTSE 250‑quoted transport firm is the 200th client signed up by the Scottish company, which also has an office in Montréal, Canada.

Ecometrica’s “Our Impacts” system is “cloud-based” – meaning it can be accessed over the internet rather than only on specific computers. The software is already being used by National Express’s UK division and will be rolled out to its Spanish operations and its yellow school bus franchise in the United States later this year.

Stuart Parker, group property and environment director at National Express, said: “We have a long-term strategic commitment to report on our environmental performance, however, we have found accounting for emissions using a spreadsheet-based system has become unwieldy and time-consuming.

“We are confident Our Impacts will resolve these challenges and provide easy and cost-effective access to the right data and results.”
