Talk 107 on course to break even as major shake-up helps to slash losses

TALK 107, the Edinburgh all-talk radio station, is in line to break even by the end of next year, its owner said today.

In a half-year report, Northern Irish firm UTV Media said losses at the firm reduced from 900,000 in the first half of last year to 600,000 for the first six months of 2008.

The improved performance comes after an April reshuffle that saw big-name presenter Tommy Sheridan axed. Fellow presenters Mike Graham, Susan Morrison and Scottie McClue were also ditched in the shake-up.

Overall, UTV Media increased its pre-tax profits by 12 per cent to 10.4 million. Radio operating profits were up by 31 per cent to 9m and revenues jumped 15 per cent from 31.5m in 2007 to 36.4m.

UTV chief executive John McCann said: "Good news stories about media companies are rare at the moment. However, the group is pleased to announce significant growth in both turnover and pre-tax profits."
