T&A is Church's choice to help develop Israel spa

THOMAS & Adamson, the Edinburgh-based construction consultant, has won a contract to help develop the new spa development at the Church of Scotland's hotel in Israel.

T&A is to work with an Israel-based design team to provide technical advice, while the company is also to act as the UK adviser, reviewing progress and reporting to the Church.

The new 1 million spa will include treatment rooms and a gym housed within a 100-year-old building next to the hotel and overlooking the Sea of Galilee towards the Golan Heights.

Last year, it emerged that the 10.3 million hotel had made its first operating profit – of 312,000 – since it opened in 2004.

Alastair Wallace, project management partner at T&A, said: "Whilst each project always has its own challenges, this one certainly brings a new meaning to our ability to think in new ways and be clear in our communication and reporting methods."

Martin Reid, senior partner at T&A, added: "This just shows that in the current climate, we are starting to look beyond our own shores."

The Scots Hotel, in Tiberius, is on the site where in 1894, Airdrie surgeon David Watt Torrance opened a hospital to serve the local area, providing both medical care and in preaching the gospel.
