Stagecoach sells bus firm after monopoly ruling
TRANSPORT group Stagecoach has sold its Preston Bus operation in the north-west of England in a £3.3 million deal following a ruling by the Competition Commission.
The Perth-based group had bought the Lancashire company in January 2009 but later that year the commission concluded the sale had reduced competition and was not in the best interests of passengers.
It ordered Stagecoach to sell the business "to a company capable of competing with it" and yesterday the firm said the operation, which runs more than 120 vehicles, had been bought by Birmingham-based Rotala.
Stagecoach shares closed up 3p at 206.2p.
