Soft drinks firm cuts jobs in Aberdeen

SANGS last night entered into a consultation with its workforce after announcing plans to close its distribution depot in Aberdeen city centre.

The soft drinks maker said 22 jobs at the depot were under threat, along with six "frontline" sales posts.

Sangs said: "We will be investigating all job opportunities at our manufacturing base in Macduff, as well as at our new depot opening in Rutherglen, in August".

The company blamed the proposed closure on the rising cost of fuel and raw materials, including sugar. Sangs said it did not expect to reduce its 73-strong workforce during the 30-day consultation.

The 112-year-old business was bought by Andy Anderson and Kenny Webster last July for 10.2 million.

Sangs' products include Deveron water and MacB flavoured waters.
