Small but beautiful: Launch of online TV search product boosts Blinkx

SHARES in Blinkx edged higher yesterday after the video search engine launched a new product to help users find television episodes on the internet.

The Blinkx Remote service will filter out video spam, illegal clips and inappropriate material that has been falsely tagged, the company said.

Episodes of television programmes offered online by the BBC, ITV, Channel 4 and Five would all be included in the search, along with material from other broadcasters, according to Blinkx.

Audiences will find only "full-length, legally available" episodes and will be able to sign up for alerts through RSS or e-mail when a new show is uploaded, the company said.

A version of the service is also being developed for use in the US market.

Blinkx, which has a market cap of about 90 million, was floated on AIM in May 2007.

The company, which has offices in San Francisco and London, holds 111 patents and is based on technology from Cambridge University.

Suranga Chandratillake, chief executive and founder, said: "Blinkx Remote uses our video-search technology to help consumers find their favourite TV shows quickly, easily and in one place."
