Share bonus worth £2.8m for Sky staff north of Border
MORE than 4,000 Scotland-based employees of digital TV group Sky have each received 100 free shares this month, worth a total of £2.8 million.
The firm said staff selling the 100 free shares in Sky’s parent company, British Sky Broadcasting Group, can expect to receive around £7 per share, giving each employee around £700.
In February 2009, all eligible Sky employees were granted 100 shares to mark the digital TV provider’s 20th anniversary. Three years on, employees now have the option to keep the shares as an on-going investment or sell them to receive the proceeds in February.
Jeremy Darroch, chief executive of Sky, said: “Our employees are central to the growth of our business and we want them to feel valued. Initiatives like the 20-year share award are just one way in which we can thank our people for their contribution and let them share in Sky’s long-term success. I’m thrilled that so many of our employees in Scotland are set to benefit.”
Sky employs about 6,800 people in its call centres at Dunfermline, Livingston and Uddingston.
