Scottish firms target global health market
SCOTTISH businesses and universities are targeting the global healthcare market through an initiative to develop medical technologies.
Strathclyde University and the Institute for System Level Integration are bringing together healthcare businesses and researchers from academia to identify opportunities for growth on a global scale.
At a high-level summit later this month, academics and business leaders will discuss ways in which medical devices can be developed. The market is expected to be worth $600 billion (368bn) a year by 2012.
Professor Patricia Connolly, director of Strathclyde University's institute of medical devices, said: "Scotland has a proven track record as a leader in electronic technology and a pioneer of medical devices.
"By bringing together expertise from engineering, science and medicine, we are ideally placed to meet demand."
