Scots migrant growth slow

SCOTLAND has seen 157,757 more people migrate inwards than emigrated since 1998, new figures have revealed.

London was the only UK area that suffered a decline but Scotland was among the areas with the lowest growth.

Martin Ellis, chief economist at Bank of Scotland, which compiled the research, said: "There have been significant population movements across the UK over the past ten years."

Scotland's internal immigration accounted for 11 per cent of the population.
