Scotland leads start-up field
SCOTLAND has seen a higher start-up growth rate that the rest of Britain over the past year, according to Royal Bank of Scotland.
The bailed-out bank says it has supported 11,000 Scottish entrepreneurs in the last 12 months - an increase of 18 per cent, compared with 11 per cent growth across Britain as a whole.
Areas where the bank has seen most activity include motor sales and repair, IT and leisure.
Gordon Merrylees, managing director of RBS branch business banking, said: "These figures tells us that the Scottish entrepreneurial spirit is alive and well despite tough market conditions."
