Ryanair eyes pull-out from Spanish base

LOW-BUDGET airline Ryanair has announced it is on the verge of closing its base in Valencia.

The company, which operates a number of flights to and from Edinburgh, has been in dispute with the Spanish city's government as it bids to continue passenger growth.

The airline claims that the government has not responded to its proposals on how to continue growth.

Ryanair has now set a deadline of this Friday for a response from the government before it makes its final decision on the future of its base at Valencia airport.

It said all its flights from the airport, including those to London, Liverpool and Dublin, are at risk.

Ryanair deputy chief executive Michael Cawley said: "Ryanair has once again proven that it is the lowest fares, best punctuality and fewest lost bags that passengers really want.

"Ryanair calls on the regional government of Valencia to act in the best interest of all those living and working in Valencia and to meet with Ryanair to agree the terms under which we can continue to grow traffic and passenger numbers with all its consequential economic and social benefits."
