Rolls-Royce wins £96m navy contract
ROLLS-ROYCE has won a £96 million contract to help the Royal Navy power two of the world's largest warships.
In a "milestone" deal, Rolls-Royce Marine will provide power and propulsion equipment for the UK's new 65,000 tonne aircraft carriers, HMS Queen Elizabeth and HMS Prince of Wales.
In July, the Ministry of Defence signed a 3 billion deal for the manufacture of the two new carriers, which are scheduled for completion in 2014 and 2016.
A spokesman for Rolls-Royce, whose 170-strong workforce at Dalgety Bay in Fife will benefit from the deal, called it a "significant" contract as Rolls will supply equipment that works together as part of a propulsion system, rather than just single parts.
