Diamond retailer Rox has appointed a head of jewellery design as it also looks to expand into the wholesale market and secure listings with upmarket department stores around the world.

The firm said yesterday it had appointed Ailsa Mackie to the newly created position. A graduate of Edinburgh College of Art, Mackie has more than 20 years’ experience in the jewellery industry, including working for London-based Asprey, which is famous for supplying crowns and sceptres for royal families around the world.

She will be responsible for the design of all Rox jewellery, along with the brand’s new giftware and small leather goods collection currently under development.

Kyron Keogh, co-founder and managing director of Rox, said: “As a company, we’ve always had a fashion-forward, design-led focus so when we met Ailsa we were impressed by her passion for jewellery and attention to detail.

“We look forward to working with Ailsa on our exclusive Rox collections, further differentiating our diamond and silver jewellery in a way that will thrill our customers.”

The firm is planning a push into the wholesale market aimed at securing listings with luxury department stores in the UK and overseas during the second half of 2014.

Rox, which was founded in 2002 by Keogh and business partner Grant Mitchell, now has stores in Aberdeen, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Leeds and Newcastle. The brand also trades online through the website www.rox.co.uk.
