New Safeway sell-off plan

WILLIAM Morrison may sell its 120 Safeway Compact stores as it tries to turn around revenues at the chain.

Morrison bought Safeway four months ago, on condition that it sold off 52 Safeway stores.

That process is under way, with John Lewis having bought 19 of the stores and Sainsbury’s another 14.

The company said interest in the smaller stores had been high ever since it bought the chain.
