The head of menswear at department store group Marks & Spencer has quit to become managing director of rival BHS.

Richard Price’s exit follows a number of significant departures this year, including director of new channels Susan Aubrey-Cound, Alison Jones, who was a brand director, and senior general merchandise director Andrew Skinner.

Price spent 15 years at Next and became trading director for menswear at M&S in 2008.

The group said his role with Sir Philip Green’s chain “presents a unique opportunity to take on a wider role, including all trading departments as well as stores, ecommerce and property”.

Last month, M&S posted a 1 per cent drop in underlying pre-tax profits to £705.9 million – its first fall since 2009.
