Further job losses as receivers seek to save R&M Deluxe Group

The owner of Instyle Furniture, the Scottish sofa manufacturer and retailer, has gone into receivership with the loss of 17 jobs.

R&M Deluxe Group, which had employed 45 people, had experienced “challenging trading conditions in recent years”, according to joint receivers Gary Fraser and Blair Nimmo of KPMG.

The group was established in 1983 and used to trade as Saveway Direct of Hamilton.

Along with a 72,000sq ft flagship site at its headquarters in Hillington near Paisley, Instyle had stores at Aberdeen, Tollcross in Glasgow and Uddingston in South Lanarkshire.

The outlets in Aberdeen and Glasgow closed last week before the receivers were called in, with the loss of seven jobs. A further ten redundancies were announced yesterday.

The remaining stores at Hillington and Uddingston are open for business and a spokesman for KPMG said customers who had placed orders or paid deposits for furniture would be dealt with on a case-by-case basis.

Nimmo said: “R&M Deluxe Group has an excellent reputation for quality within the Scottish furniture sector, but has unfortunately experienced challenging trading conditions in recent years.”

He added: “The joint receivers are currently assessing the financial position of the group and are taking steps to market and sell the business as a going concern.”
