Barr extends Rockstar franchise with 15-year contract
Irn-Bru maker AG Barr has extended its franchise deal to sell a US energy drink brand in the UK and Ireland.
The new 15-year agreement between the Scots firm and Rockstar extends a partnership between the pair which has been in place since 2007.
Rockstar – based in Las Vegas – bills its product as “the world’s most powerful energy drink” that is “formulated to provide an incredible energy boost for those who lead active and exhausting lifestyles”.
It is sold in flavours including “Coconut Water”, “PerfectBerry”, “Recovery Orange” and “Roasted Mocha”.
In a statement to the stock exchange, Barr said: “This amendment to our existing agreement will extend the current contract through to 2024, further cementing the strong relationship between the two companies and highlighting the future growth potential of the Rockstar brand in the UK.”
Shares in the firm dipped 1p to 418p.
Barr is currently facing a legal battle which could threaten its sales in Russia,
An eastern European company has taken the firm to court in a bid to end Irn-Bru’s protected status in the country.
