REpower appoints Eggleston as sole MD

WIND energy heavyweight REpower UK has appointed Rick Eggleston as managing director, after its previous head, Henning von Barsewisch, returned to his native Germany.

Eggleston was previously joint managing director of the wind turbine supplier, an offshoot of the German renewable energy giant REpower Systems.

He will have sole responsibility for managing the UK business, which has its headquarters in Edinburgh.

Mike Carter, previously head of sales at REpower UK, has been appointed to a new role of commercial director and deputy managing director.

Since its establishment in the UK in 2003, REpower has supplied turbines for 22 onshore UK wind farms and one offshore farm in the North Sea.

Eggleston, said: "REpower has achieved our 300MW growth target in the UK already this year. With contracts for another 200MW now in progress we are well on our way to delivering 400MW next spring."

Last month, REpower announced it had won the contract for a 13–turbine wind farm planned in Stirlingshire by EDF Energy Renewables. The farm is expected to generate 26MW of energy, enough to power 14,500 homes, and will save approximately 40,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide a year.

It is also approaching completion at two wind farms in the far north of Scotland, at Achany and Fairburn. They are expected to be connected to the National Grid and handed over to Scottish and Southern Energy (SSE), which commissioned the projects, in the new year.
