Recruitment staff to lose jobs
RECRUITMENT firm Michael Page International has announced it is cutting jobs in the wake of the global downturn.
The firm, which advertises hundreds of vacancies in the Capital and has an office on George Street, has also issued a profits warning after a loss of confidence spread to "every sector and geographic market".
It said that its cost base and staff levels were being "managed down", which will see its workforce fall to 5100. The company's headcount at the end of June stood at more than 5500, compared with 4300 at the same stage of 2007.
The group operates in around 150 offices in 28 countries worldwide. It employs more than 1550 people in the UK, a figure which has increased this year following the opening of new offices at Cardiff, Newcastle and Canterbury.
