Profits take off at Scottish airports on pension gains
PROFITS at BAA's three Scottish airports soared in 2010 after they received exceptional gains from the group's UK-wide pension scheme, according to accounts filed at Companies House.
Pre-tax profits at Edinburgh rose from 15.5 million to 30.3m following a 5.7m pension credit, compared with a 13.6m charge in 2009.
At Glasgow, profits climbed from 5.6m to 20.6m on the back of a 5.5m pension gain, compared with a 13.4m charge.Meanwhile, Aberdeen's earnings jumped from 7m to 12m after it received a 3.3m pension credit, turning round an 8.1m charge. Edinburgh's turnover edged up by 1.6 per cent to 98.9m, Glasgow's was flat at 81.5m, while Aberdeen posted a 2.5 per cent rise to 49.1m.
Passengers numbers for 2010 at Edinburgh dropped by 5 per cent to 8.6 million, while Glasgow fell by 9.6 per cent to 6.5 million and Aberdeen was down 7.4 per cent to 2.8 million.
