Prescott calls for stripping of Sir Fred honour

FORMER Deputy Prime Minister John Prescott has called for Sir Fred Goodwin to be stripped of his knighthood.

Mr Prescott said he wanted the former RBS chief executive to "pay the consequences" for the bank's decline.

His comments come as RBS faces claims that its senior executives, including Sir Fred, misled investors by making them believe the bank was a good investment while asking them for extra funds last year.

Mr Prescott said: "The bankers caused the problems and they should be paying the consequences for it," adding that Sir Fred no longer warrants a title bestowed for services to banking.

Tavish Scott, leader of the Scottish Liberal Democrats, has called for an investigation and SNP MSP Christine Grahame has written to Lothian and Borders Police demanding an investigation is carried out on the rights issue.
