People: Another step up the ladder for ten lucky staff at accountancy firm
IT IS a busy old time for those succession planning brains at accountancy firm PricewaterhouseCoopers.
For the firm's Scottish operation has unveiled ten senior appointments as it "continues to develop and promote its next generation of leaders".
The firm also boasts that the credit crunch will not stop it from recruiting around 70 graduates in Scotland.
As part of the changes, three additional partners have been appointed. Pensions specialist Richard Slater and David Brown in the Performance Improvement Consulting (PIC) department have been promoted, while the third is a transfer from the US firm,Steve Davies, who will head the PIC Financial Services team in Edinburgh. Seven staff have also been promoted to director level.
All to play for at games developer as Howard joins a growing team
THERE seems to be the opposite of a crackdown at Dundee games developer Real Time Worlds (RTW). The studio makes a game called Crackdown, a crime fighting "third person shooter". But in the real world, RTW says it has over 40 vacancies to fill.
Its newest recruit is Joshua Howard, who joins the company as program manager.
Howard was most recently an executive at Hidden City Games, a virtual world/games portal company based in Seattle. Prior to that he was studio head of Carbonated Games, and spent 15 years at Microsoft. Howard will be responsible for co-ordinating new online game All Points Bulletin.
Hiring of property expert gives hope
IS IT another sign of green shoots in the property industry? Law firm HBJ Wareing has appointed a real estate expert to strengthen its Scottish team "in response to recent client wins".
Edinburgh-based Mike Fitzgerald has joined the firm as a real estate partner from Dundas & Wilson, boosting the partners in the division to 23. His previous projects included work on the Edinburgh trams project and redevelopment of the SECC.
Staffing boost for vaccine firm
VACCINE firm BigDNA has appointed four new staff just weeks after opening its vaccine manufacturing suite at Roslin BioCentre.
Fermentation specialist Gemma Harlow, Jennifer Gardiner, a microbiology student at Heriot Watt University, and Dr Ewan Clark, of the Moredun Research Institute, are all to join as scientists at the firm, which designs and develops vaccines. Jill Brooks has been appointed as an accountant.

THE managing director of engineering supplies specialist Fasco had the chance to meet Miss Scotland, Katharine Brown, yesterday at the opening of his company's new Stirling outlet.
Fasco, which currently has trade outlets in Grangemouth and Shetland, plans to expand its presence across Scotland.

THE lucrative pay package set to be handed out to the boss of BT was under scrutiny yesterday following concerns from shareholder bodies.
The Association of British Insurers slapped an "amber top" rating on the firm ahead of its annual meeting, while consultant PIRC called the rewards on offer "potentially excessive".
