News International veteran joins Johnston Press board

JOHNSTON Press, owner of The Scotsman, has announced the appointment of a new non-executive director who has close to three decades of experience in the print media sector.

Camilla Rhodes, who spent 28 years with News International, joined the Johnston Press board as of yesterday.

Ian Russell, chairman of Johnston Press, said: "Camilla has had an enormously successful career in our industry, rising to the most senior levels of News International. I am delighted that she is to join our board and I am confident that her very considerable media experience will benefit Johnston Press."

Rhodes's former roles include managing director of Times Newspapers – publisher of the Times and the Sunday Times – from 1997 to 2001, and managing director of News Group Newspapers, publisher of the Sun and the News of the World, from 2001-05.

In 2005, Rhodes set up News Magazines, a standalone magazine publishing division. She left News International in late 2008.

Rhodes has also held several board positions on news industry bodies, including the Advertising Standards Authority, the Newspaper Publishers Association and the Newspaper Marketing Association Council.
