New day dawns for HoundDog following GFI buyout

SCOTTISH software firm HoundDog Technology has been bought by international development company GFI for an undisclosed sum.

HoundDog, based in Dundee, provides managed-services software for some 1,700 IT support companies worldwide. It offers remote management, monitoring and support tools, and said it had experienced strong business growth in recent months. Companies use its technology to build revenues and drive down operating costs.

HoundDog was founded in 2003 by Doug Wilson, who will remain with the firm under its new owner. The company's brand name will be retained.

Wilson said: "When GFI came knocking on our door, we knew this was a great opportunity to partner with an established technology leader, round out our product offering and launch it to a worldwide audience."

He described GFI as the "perfect vehicle" to push out its remote monitoring and management technology to as many customers as possible.

"HoundDog is an extremely successful company on a fantastic growth curve", said Wilson. "We are confident that this will be the catalyst for GFI to further expand our product portfolio, using either on-premise or an on-line delivery model."

He is looking at bringing in other companies and their technology in the coming months to enable HoundDog to continue to provide the best possible solutions to its customers based on their needs at the time.

GFI is an infrastructure solution provider for small and medium-sized businesses. It offers a single source for companies to address their network and content security needs. It said that HoundDog's technology complements GFI's plans to provide applications to help clients to manage and grow their businesses.

Walter Scott, chief executive of GFI, said: "This is the first of a number of initiatives we are undertaking to provide customers with a range of services that include both on-premise and on-line solutions. We chose HoundDog for the simple reason they are a best-of-breed company."
