Microsoft Scotland boss takes role as chair of IoD

THE head of technology giant Microsoft's operations in Scotland has been appointed to chair a body representing Scottish directors.

The Institute of Directors has appointed Raymond O'Hare, director of Edinburgh-based Microsoft Scotland, to succeed Andy Sturgess of PricewaterhouseCoopers in the role.

He will bring 26 years of working in information technology in Scotland and Ireland to the organisation. Among his posts have been senior management positions at Digital, ICL and Nixdorf.

Mr O'Hare is also a board member of Scotland IS and sits on the executive council of the Scottish Council for Development in Industry.

He has also served on the IoD's Executive Council and is a member of the Strategic Advisory Board of the University of Glasgow Business School.

David Watt, executive director of IoD Scotland, which provides help, support and guidance for directors, said: "We are delighted to have someone with Raymond's stature, experience and enthusiasm taking on this role. It is a testament to the credentials of the IoD in Scotland that we have a key executive from the world's biggest corporation as our chairman.

"I would also like to thank Andy Sturgess for his valuable contribution as chairman.

"Andy made a huge impact, helping drive the organisation forward during his three-year tenure. He has helped lay the foundations for us to continue to represent the business community and build on the standards of company directors throughout Scotland."
