Shore makes waves with turnover set to reach £1m
SHORE Design Consultancy, the Leith-based company formed after fellow Lothian firm Forth Product Design (FPD) went into liquidation, is on track to turn over £1 million in its first year of business.
The company, which designs products for some of the world’s leading brand names, was set up by Nick Foley and James McLusky, who lost their jobs, along with 19 others, when Macmerry-based FPD was wound up in December.
Mr McLusky said the move saved the jobs of 14 highly skilled employees, and three more positions have been created since Shore was established.
He added: "When Forth closed, it sent shockwaves through the UK design industry. It was a hugely respected name.
"Our clients couldn’t believe what had happened. But many of them made it clear that they trusted the designers they were working with, not just the firm they had contracted."
Shore, which designs the look, engineering and mechanics of products, now has contracts ranging from innovative Scottish entrepreneurs to worldwide corporations.
Mr Foley said: "If a client comes to us with a new idea, they create the core technology. It’s our designers and engineers who turn it into the product people actually buy.
"Our team have an average of ten years’ experience in the industry and have worked for big names like Sony, NCR, Philips, Hewlett Packard, Flymo and Mitsubishi in the past."
