Internet: To boldly go very slowly
IT'S IN THE KHAN
SOME things are better when enjoyed over a l-o-n-g time. Take this clip of what is possibly William Shatner's finest moment: when, as Captain James T Kirk, he delivers the line "Khhhhaaaannnn!" as a twitching seething mass of rage. Brilliant in the original Star Trek: Wrath of Khan, but video artist Daniel Martinico has taken it to its logical-if-extreme conclusion by stretching the moment – twitches and screaming – for 15 minutes. This clip contains just the first two minutes but you get the idea.
SOUND WAVES
THIS may be the most fun and interesting link I've ever listed. It may look like a simple grid, but in fact it's a sinewave synthesiser. You trigger it by highlighting individual squares, all of which play different notes. It's mesmerising, especially if you highlight a quarter of the screen. Find out what your initials are like as sound.
BIN BURGERS
THIS list is as fascinating as it is horrific. Every brand has its flops – just ask the Labour party – but McDonald's seems capable of coming up with the sort of ideas for snacks that only late night drunkenness can inspire and sobriety will undoubtedly discard. Thus you have the McGratin Croquette, a positively unholy combination of deep-fried macaroni, shrimp and potato, on a bed of cabbage, aimed at the Japanese market; and the McHulaburger, a truly horrific concept from the 1960s, when in an attempt to accommodate Catholics forbidden to eat meat on a Friday, they replaced the burger with... a slice of pineapple.

THIS trailer for a Star Wars role-playing game makes the last three films and the Clone Wars spin-offs look positively wan. I have no idea what Star Wars Old Republic is about, but that isn't the point. If I was 12 again and had access to a game with graphics this good, I would probably have never become properly socialised.
