Internet: On the way to the gig
BACK SEAT BANDS www.blackcabsessions.com
AS THE name suggests, these are performances by some of the music industry's greatest names recorded in the back of taxi. And it's brilliant. Until you've heard Beach Boys genius Brian Wilson harmonising with four of his band while squeezed on to the faux leather seats, you haven't heard anything. Guitar god Richard Thompson is there too, as is Badly Drawn Boy and Fleet Foxes. Why these people put themselves through this ignominy, I have no idea, but it kicks seven shades out of Later With Jools Holland, that's for sure.
TRANSFORMATION BLUES www.youtube.com/watch?v>dmgbbGJW6ZE
NOT sure how surprised we should be that there's a Transformers sequel. Sure, the first one was a dog of a movie, but when the special effects look as good as they do in this trailer for Revenge of the Fallen, who cares? The ten-year-old boy in me can barely contain his excitement, while the sulky film student who he became looks on and just tuts in disapproval. Shame on me.
PINKY AND PAUL www.youtube.com/watch?v>kiTsULG6iVQ
HOW odd is this? Extremely. Two genetically enhanced mice intent on world domination meet The Beatles, as seen in this clip of Pinky and the Brain, a hugely popular cartoon in America during the early 1990s. Why is it when Americans try to do Scouser accents, they end up sounding like they've got blocked noses? Worth a look just to catch the Yoko Ono joke...
CURIOUS BOYLE www.youtube.com/watch?v>vHwgCcj9UCU
NEVER one to ignore inexplicable social phenomena, it seems only fair that we include internet star Susan Boyle. Sort of. US chat show host Jimmy Fallon has perhaps captured the spirit of what she means to the world with this little skit. I particularly like the "zombies have broken through the barrier" joke. You'll just have to watch it.
