Deep-Sea profits submerge
SCOTTISH aquarium operator Deep-Sea Leisure has unveiled a dip in profits due to higher utility bills and investment in new visitor attractions.
The group, which owns Deep Sea World in North Queensferry and the Blue Planet complex in Chester, said pre-tax profits in the first six months of the year had fallen from 309,000 to 267,000 on turnover of 2.77 million, slightly up on the 2.75m recorded a year earlier.
It added that no interim dividend would be paid to shareholders.
Deep-Sea said it had ploughed money into two new visitor attractions - Seal Sanctuary and Octopus Adventure.
Two new temporary exhibitions at the Fife aquarium are also set to draw in extra customers. "Shark! Myths and reality" runs until June 18, while "BBC Sea Monsters" is due to open on June 24 and run until the end of September.
Chairman Angel Barrachina said: "An increase of 113,000 in administrative expenses accounted for the decline in pre-tax profits."
