Closure threat for Talk 107

TALK 107 owner UTV today said it put the city station up for sale as it was unlikely to become profitable within a "reasonable timescale". It also said it will close the station and hand the licence back to Ofcom if it fails to find a buyer.

UTV, which also owns TalkSport, said its UK radio revenues so far this year have been broadly in line with last year.

In a statement, it said: "Earlier this year we took action to remedy the underperformance of our new radio station in Edinburgh, Talk107.

It now seems unlikely that this station can be brought to profitability in a reasonable timescale, particularly in the current market conditions."

When the sale was announced, media experts said it was proof that the all-talk format cannot work outside of London.
