Aberdeen leads way as Scots hotels defy gloom
SCOTLAND’S hotels outperformed their rivals south of the Border last year, boosted by the oil and gas and tourism industries, figures yesterday revealed.
Revenues at three- and four-star sites in Aberdeen jumped by an average 11.3 per cent year-on-year, while Inverness was up 4.8 per cent.
Edinburgh returned a 2.8 per cent rise, making its average cost per room of £66.87 the highest for any part of the UK outside inner London. Alastair Rae, a partner at accountancy firm PKF, which compiled the figures, said: “Inverness has had an excellent year, with ‘staycationers’ among the most likely reasons for its considerably improved performance.”
Scotland as a whole posted a 2.6 per cent rise in revenues.
But Rae warned: “It should be remembered that growth of 2.6 per cent, at a time when inflation has been over 4 per cent for most of the year, means that, in real terms, revenue has fallen.”
