Wood will run US power plant
WOOD Group’s gas turbine division yesterday won a major contract to run a power station near Phoenix, in Arizona.
The Aberdeen-based firm will operate and maintain the Gila River power plant – which has eight gas turbines that can produce 2.2GW of power in total – for the next four years.
The plant is one of the biggest in the United States that isn’t owned by a large utility company. Gila River has already used Wood Group’s “eco-max” system on six of its eight turbines, increasing the power station’s efficiency by up to 2 per cent.
Under the latest deal, eco-max technology will be installed on the other two turbines. Wood Group added: “Using our engineering experience and unique technology, we identified ways to increase the overall plant performance through increased output and efficiency.”
