Four out of ten firms in Scotland are looking to take on staff in the coming year, according to research published yesterday.
Recruitment experts said that the findings were positive news for the country’s private sector and follow Monday’s upbeat labour market barometer from Bank of Scotland, which showed a rise in vacancies.
Yesterday’s report, which was supported by Skills Development Scotland and carried out by the Scottish Council for Development & Industry (SCDI), shows that 38 per cent of employers expect to increase employment over the next 12 months – up from 27 per cent just six months ago.
Gareth Williams, head of policy at the SCDI, said: “The results of this survey are encouraging. They demonstrate that, while economic conditions remain difficult for many employers, they are becoming more bullish on employment, a sign of increasing confidence.”
