Glasgow’s economy is set for a £27 million boost after the city fought off competition from the likes of London, Paris and Tokyo to secure a number of major conferences.
The city, which last week hosted the seventh annual Scottish Fashion Awards, is the first to benefit from VisitScotland’s £2m conference bid fund, launched by the tourism body to attract more business visitors to Scotland.
Glasgow City Marketing Bureau (GCMB) has secured seven major events, including the 2015 International Conference on Nuclear Cardiology and World Biomaterials Congress 2020.
Council leader and GCMB chair Gordon Matheson said the wins were “a clear endorsement of the confidence that the meetings industry continues to have in Glasgow and strengthens the city’s reputation as one of the world’s premier business tourism destinations”.
