Rolls-Royce wins £10m wave-breaking boat contract
Engineering giant Rolls-Royce has won a £10 million contract from Simon Møkster Shipping to build an oil spill recovery boat to operate in harsh Arctic waters.
The boat, which will have “a striking new bow design”, will be built by Spanish shipyard Gondan and will be operated by Norwegian energy major StatOil.
Hans Robert Almestad, Rolls-Royce general sales manager, said: “Our wave-piercing designs and other highly-efficient technologies are becoming increasingly popular with customers seeking to reduce their operating costs and improve the environmental performance of their fleets.”
Simon Møkster said the design of the vessel would allow it to keep a more-constant speed through rough seas, which in turn would reduce fuel usage and increased on board safety.
