Law firm Burness Paull has promoted one of Scotland’s leading pensions experts to partner in its seven-strong pensions team.

Margaret Meehan, a member of the pensions law sub-committee of the Law Society of Scotland, joined the firm in 1993 and has more than 25 years’ experience in pensions law, specialising in complex advisory work. She said: “Taking the step up to partner, at what is a defining time for the pensions market, will be hugely fulfilling.”

Commercial interiors specialist Afh Strategic Contracts has revealed the appointment of Paul Mitchell as healthcare consultant amid its “impressive” growth. The firm, which operates in interior design and fit-out services, said the hire reflects its aim to “build on its growth into the highly-specialised healthcare interior design market”, with Mitchell bringing extensive experience in the private UK healthcare sector, having jointly designed, built and launched the Glasgow Centre for Reproductive Medicine.

Mitchell said it is “extremely exciting to be working as a consultant with Afh Strategic Contracts at a time when they are forging great advancements and building their reputation in the healthcare sector.” His appointment comes as Afh, which has also been revamping the interiors of Macdonald Hotels in Scotland, achieved turnover of £5.5 million in the 12 months to 31 January, with a 15 per cent year-on-year jump in pre-tax profits, and the same pace of growth expected over the next financial year.

Aberdeen-headquartered engineering services group EnerMech said it has strengthened a key business division with the appointment of Chris Dixon as director of UK mechanical handling services. It said Dixon will enhance the delivery of its cranes and lifting, hydraulics and training services to the UK and European energy sector.

Phil Bentley, regional director for Europe, said Dixon brings “a wealth of experience in the mechanical handling services sector, both in the UK and overseas, working latterly with Stork and before that with Sparrows across a range of executive roles over a 24-year period”.

Retail and business property specialist Eric Young & Co has hired Anna Hansen as a surveyor in its retail agency team. She joins from CBRE and Ian Whelan, managing partner, said Hansen “is a natural agent who understands how the market works and has already developed good contacts among retailers and agents alike”.
