Olympics ‘will boost London by £1.8bn’
HOSTING the Olympic Games will have added £1.8 billion a year to London’s economy within the next three years, thanks to the regeneration of the east end, according to figures released today by the Centre for Economics & Business Research.
But Douglas McWilliams, the think-tank’s chief economist, said it was too early to put a figure on the benefit to the UK as a whole. The games will have cost £11bn in total, he said.
