McKinnon keeps on building expertise

Years of self-development are paying off for health and safety expert Ian McKinnon.

After 20 years building expertise, he has just been hired by Scottish-based business support organisation Law at Work (LAW) as its head of health and safety services.

McKinnon, a biology and environmental management graduate of Keele University, saw his expertise honed in the construction industry during the early days of his career and through years of academic self-development. He has also worked for global brands including Exxon Mobil and Accor Hotels.

He said: “LAW has an excellent reputation in the market and ambitious plans to grow the health and safety division and I’m excited to be part of that.”

But McKinnon has not finished adding to his qualifications – he is currently working towards a masters in safety and risk management at Heriot-Watt University.

Partner role for Shand at MBM

Lawyer Peter Shand has been promoted to partner after six years at Edinburgh-based firm Murray Beith Murray.

The 36-year-old trained and qualified as a corporate lawyer with McGrigors, which last week announced a merger with Pinsent Masons.

An expert in estate and tax planning and asset protection, Shand has a background in wealth management and is qualified as a solicitor on both sides of the Border.

Louise Irwin moves up to director level with consultancy

Employment lawyer Louise Irwin has been made a director at Aberdeen-based Lili Hunter Consulting.

Irwin is also an associate lawyer with sister firm Hunter Legal, and with eight years’ post-qualifying experience she is responsible for the employment law side of the business and is the company’s lead adviser and contracts expert.

Managing director Lili Hunter said: “Louise’s expertise and continued dedication to our clients and our business are outstanding. I am delighted that she has accepted this appointment which will support the continued growth and success of our business.”

Highland Park to welcome Haldane

Former Diageo brand ambassador Daryl Haldane has moved to Edrington Group in a role promoting its Highland Park whisky. He takes on the newly created role of global brand advocate for the Orkney malt.

Haldane had been at Diageo for more than four years and focused on training, from brand education to product development, working mostly with the UK on-trade.

Gerry Tosh, global marketing manager for Highland Park, said: “The creation of this position and Daryl’s appointment mark a step forward for us in terms of driving forward our longer terms plans.

“It’s definitely going to be an exciting few years for us.”
