McGill’s in £10m takeover deal
BUS operator McGill’s is set to double in size after agreeing an estimated £10 million takeover deal with rival Arriva Scotland West.
The deal, thought to be the biggest of its kind since the bus market was deregulated a quarter of a century ago, will see 380 staff transfer to McGill’s, taking its total workforce to more than 700.
The Greenock-based company will also take over Arriva’s depots in Johnstone and Inchinnan and 165 buses, increasing its fleet to more than 350 buses.
McGill’s managing director, Ralph Roberts, said: “Upon completion, the transaction will give McGill’s operational efficiencies and development of our business, both in Renfrewshire and further afield.”
The deal is expected to complete by March.
