M&S and Premier Inn unveil plans for the ‘home of golf’
TWO major brands today unveiled plans to build a supermarket and hotel development in the Fife town of St Andrews – complete with a special store room for visitors’ golf clubs.
The £7 million scheme from Marks & Spencer and Premier Inn on the site of the town’s abattoir, which is closing down, is expected to create about 80 full- and part-time jobs.
Property developer Ashleigh Scotland said it would consult with residents over plans for the site on Largo Road.
Alex Steel, managing director of the subsidiary set up to run the project, said: “We are sure that a prestigious food retailer will be welcomed in the town in this location and the Premier Inn will offer very good accommodation to the ever-increasing numbers of golf, business and tourist visitors to the town.”
Under the plans being submitted to Fife Council, Premier Inn’s hotel would have 65 bedrooms, while the M&S store would have just under 1,000 square metres of floorspace.
Ashleigh Scotland’s previous developments have included work for Tesco.
