Higgins joins Buccleuch Group board

TESCO Bank chief executive Benny Higgins has joined the Buccleuch Group as a non-executive director

He becomes the second non-executive board member from outwith the family, joining Joe Scott Plummer, former chairman of fund manager Martin Currie.

The Buccleuch Group represents the corporate business interests of the Buccleuch family and focuses on commercial property, energy, and the hospitality and tourism sector within its rural estates businesses.

Higgins has been chief executive of Tesco Bank since 2008 following a career in Scottish financial services that has included senior roles at Standard Life, Royal Bank of Scotland and HBOS.

He is a member of the Treasury task force on financial inclusion, the Scottish Government’s Financial Services Advisory Board (FiSAB), the Glasgow Economic Leadership Board and the Commonwealth Games Legacy Board. He is also a director of Scottish Financial Enterprise and is a Princes Trust ambassador.

He said: “It is an honour to be asked to contribute to the on-going development of the Buccleuch Group.”

The Duke of Buccleuch said: “Benny’s great breadth of experience, combined with a formidable track record and his familiarity with the Scottish scene in particular will be of huge benefit to our family business as it develops in new directions.”
