Grant secures 90 Fife jobs

Scottish Enterprise has awarded £275,000 of grant funding to help an American-owned firm build a £1 million production line at its factory in Fife, safeguarding scores of jobs.

CommScope will make aluminium cable at its Lochgelly plant, which was chosen for expansion over the company’s US and Chinese facilities, keeping 90 jobs at the factory.

Scottish Enterprise streamlined three grant applications into one to make a more attractive proposal.

Site manager David Dryburgh said: “Significant advances in aluminium-based cable technology combined with the continued high volatility of copper pricing have fuelled a shift in customer demand.

“We are proud that our Lochgelly facility can grow to help meet this new demand.”
