Alison Mathewson will have nowhere to hide now she has landed the top job at Edinburgh boutique hotel The Glasshouse.
But that won’t bother the hospitality career woman, who has 20 years’ experience of hotel and hospitality management across Scotland behind her. She has worked at the Thistle Hotel in Glasgow, Dalhousie Castle & Spa in Midlothian, the Swallow Hotels in Glasgow and Peterborough and the Stakis Normandy Hotel in Renfrew.
Mathewson has taken over as general manager of the five-star city centre Glasshouse in time for the tourist season. She will oversee the hotel operations, which include meeting rooms and luxury wedding venue facilities as well as 65 bedrooms.
She said: “We have some exciting developments underway for The Glasshouse and I am very much looking forward to working with the team to bring these plans to fruition in 2012.”
Mathewson will be supported by the hotel’s new director of sales and marketing, Leigh Craig. He has forged his decade-long career at the Mint Hotel in Glasgow, all three Greens Health & Fitness clubs in Scotland – latterly part of De Vere Hotels – and Esporta.

Jam today for Olympic hopeful
Arbroath-based jam-maker Mackays is helping to get local athlete Eilish McColgan out of a sticky spot by sponsoring her bid to run in the Olympics.
McColgan, 21, the daughter of former 10,000m world champion Liz, will compete for a place at the Olympics at the athletics trials in June.
Managing director Martin Grant said: “Eilish is a fantastic local talent and we were more than happy to get behind her in the build-up to London 2012. We are excited to be working with an athlete who has a great future ahead of her.”
The middle-distance runner will be working closely with Mackays over the coming year and has offered to help out at local events and tastings in the future, when not training or competing.
She said: “It is fantastic to receive support from a great local business and I look forward to working with Martin and his team.”
