Energy sector powers HBJ profits

PROFITS at law firm HBJ Gateley surged by 14 per cent after the practice cashed in on the growth in the renewable energy sector.

The firm – which was created in 2005 when Edinburgh-based Henderson Boyd Jackson completed the first cross-Border merger with Midlands practice Gateley Wareing – posted an operating profit of just over £7 million on the back of a 16 per cent increase in turnover to £16.1m.

The figures relate to the Scottish practice, which also has an office in Glasgow, with Gateley due to report separate results south of the Border.

Spinning off its HBJ Claims Solution business meant bottom-line profits fell to £7.1m from £8m, leaving the average profit per partner to fall to £187,660 from £194,039.
