Companies round-up – Tuesday 13 November
John Menzies and Cineworld have updated the market on their trading performance today.
John Menzies – trading in line with expectations
The Edinburgh-based logistics group said its full-year results should be in line with expectations as the positive start it made to the second half continues.
Ground handling volumes at Menzies Aviation were up 2.7 per cent on a like-for-like basis during the four months to 31 October, while newspaper sales at its Menzies Distribution are were ahead of expectations.
Cineworld – promising film line-up for fourth quarter
With Skyfall, the latest instalment in the James Bond franchise, grossing more than £60 million in its first two weeks, the cinema operator is now looking forward to the concluding part of the Twilight series and The Hobbit, which is released on 14 December.
Box office revenues rose 2.1 per cent in the 45 weeks to 8 November, as a 4 per cent increase in ticket prices offset a 4.1 per cent drop in admissions. However, a lack of 3D films, and therefore lower sales of 3D glasses, saw ‘other income’ plunge 18.2 per cent.
