BUDGET airline EasyJet carried 5.8 million passengers last month, an increase of 8 per cent on a year earlier.

While the growth in July passenger numbers was the same as that reported by Ryanair last week, EasyJet’s planes were fuller than its Dublin-based rival. EasyJet said its load factor rose to 92.5 per cent, up from 91.7 per cent in July 2011.

Energetics eager to go networking

Utilities firm Energetics has won a £6 million contract to connect the Scottish Epilepsy Centre in Govan, Glasgow, to the grid.

David Thomson, projects manager at Glasgow-based Energetics, said: “We are very proud to add Quarriers to our growing portfolio of clients in the industrial and commercial sector and are gearing up to design, build and connect the network for the centre.”

Intellego celebrates bright alliance plan

A Swedish firm is getting ready to sell a sunshine monitor developed at Strathclyde University in Glasgow.

Intellego Technologies, set up by entrepreneur Claes Lindahl, has hired the university’s Andrew Mills and Michael McFarlane as consultants.

Spyker at war over Saab bankruptcy

Dutch sports car maker Spyker is suing General Motors for more than $3 billion (£1.9bn) on behalf of its subsidiary Saab, accusing the US carmaker of “deliberately bankrupting” the Swedish group by blocking a deal with a Chinese investor.

The former finance director at Northern Rock has joined an Edinburgh-based recruitment company as an associate.

Dave Jones, who played a “major role” in the restructuring of the bank before its sale by the Treasury to Virgin Money, will be working with Talent Focus, which lists Bank of Scotland, Lothian Buses and Scottish Life among its clients. Jones previously worked at accountancy firm PwC.
