Business in brief: NVT | Financial Services Industry | SCVO | Sodexo

NVT, the Bellshill-based IT solutions group, is to open an office in London next spring, creating 20 jobs, following expansion earlier this year into Aberdeen.

NVT plans 20 jobs in London expansion

The company, which currently employs 85 staff in Bellshill, is actively recruiting senior and apprentice support staff. The group made a pre-tax profit last year of 802,163 on revenues of £10.5 million.

Stephen Park Brown, managing director, said: “We have been trading our way diligently through the recession and have been pleased at our continuous profit growth during this period.”

Financial trust is ebbing away

THE low level of public trust in the financial services industry will have serious implications for society at large unless something is done about it, a conference heard yesterday.

Professor Christine Ennew of Nottingham University told the Question of Trust event in London that the decline in trust means individuals have less protection, less insurance and save and invest less.

Her research showed that, when investing, people trust recommendations from friends and family by as much as five times more than price comparison websites.

SCVO gets jobs for more youngsters

THE Community Jobs Scotland (CJS) programme – created by the Scottish Council for Voluntary Organisations (SCVO) backed with Scottish Government funding and delivered in partnership with Social Enterprise Scotland – has out-performed other employment initiatives, according to a report out today.

Some 40 per cent of young people got a full-time job after completing a CJS contract and 71 per cent of employers found they had a positive attitude to work. Martin Sime, the SCVO’s chief executive, said: “These results speak for themselves.”

Sodexo hopes for Olympic winner

CATERING group Sodexo is betting on the London Olympics and robust emerging markets to help it to hit full-year targets after quarterly growth was hit by reduced spending by corporate clients across Europe.

The French group, which has extensive UK operations, expects to generate about €100 million (£79m) of revenue from providing catering for the Olympics, while its fourth quarter, ending 31 August, should also benefit from fewer European public holidays than a year ago. Sodexo’s Scottish contracts include Hampden.
